AVE Chamber Choir, founded in 1984, over four decades of artistic activity, established itself as one of Slovenia’s leading chamber ensembles. Its artistic profile has been shaped by several distinguished conductors, including its founder Andraž Hauptman, as well as Branka Potočnik Krajnik, Jerica Gregorc Bukovec, Marko Vatovec, Alenka Podpečan, Gregor Klančič, and Jakob Ivačič. From its earliest years, the choir has distinguished itself through high artistic standards, stylistic versatility, and a strong presence on the concert stage. It has performed successfully at numerous international festivals and competitions across Europe and worldwide, receiving many of the highest honors at prestigious international choral competitions. The ensemble is the recipient of the Prešeren Fund Award, the City of Ljubljana Award, and the Order of Merit of the Republic of Slovenia. It has released seven CD recordings, including Praeparate corda vestra, recorded in collaboration with its then guest conductor Ambrož Čopi, who assumed the artistic directorship of the ensemble in October 2025. This new artistic chapter is marked by a strong commitment to both contemporary and classical repertoire, as well as to the cultivation of the Slovenian choral tradition.

Ambrož Čopi is a distinguished composer, conductor, educator, and Artistic Director of the Aegis Carminis International Youth Choir Festival in Koper, Slovenia. From the beginning of his pedagogical career, he has encouraged creativity among his students in the field of choral music and has become a mentor to a younger generation of Slovenian composers. His original compositions, recorded on five CD albums, are performed internationally. As a conductor, he has led numerous Slovenian choirs to outstanding success at both national competitions (15 gold awards), and international competitions (29 first prizes). He has also received multiple awards for outstanding artistic achievement and excellence in conducting. He currently conducts the Chamber Choir of the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet (KGBL) and the AVE Chamber Choir, both considered among Slovenia’s foremost choral ensembles. In 2014, in addition to the prestigious Prešeren Fund Award, he received the Gallus Plaque, the highest Slovenian distinction in the field of music. He is regularly invited to serve on the juries of international choral competitions worldwide and actively participates in seminars and masterclasses for conductors and composers, while also sharing his experience as a lecturer.
