Tivat Music Festival – Launching a New Musical Platform
Celebrated Opera Arias performed by the outstanding Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and soloists
In collaboration with the Tivat Music Festival Foundation, led by director Andrea Orlando Tripović and the creative team of KotorArt, a new artistico-educational platform will come to life. With the support and partnership of the Tivat Cultural Center and its director Mr. Goran Božović, the first projects will be realized during the summer of 2024.
The opening of the Tivat Music Festival, titled Once Upon a Time in the World of Opera, will take place in the main hall of the Tivat Cultural Center on June 28 at 9 p.m. The opening concert will feature the eminent Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Samra Gulamović, with soloists Valentina Elizabeta Šilje, soprano, Bože Jurić-Pešić, tenor, and Tomislav Jokić, tenor. Additionally, guest performers at the concert will include Petra Radulović, soprano, and Sava Vemić, bass.
The program consists of the most significant arias by Puccini, Donizetti, Rossini, Bellini, Verdi, Mozart, and Handel. This concert promotes one of the Festival’s goals – establishing and strengthening connections and partnerships with regional artists and festivals. Soloists from Montenegro and Croatia will perform alongside the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, an ensemble with a long tradition and practice of performing both in Croatia and on the international stage. The orchestra is led by conductor Samra Gulamović from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In addition to several existing prestigious festivals at various locations along the Montenegrin coast focusing on artistic music and developmental strategies, we are delighted to announce the addition of the Tivat Music Festival to this list starting this year. Tivat, as a destination that has emerged as one of the primary tourist attractions in recent years, will also be promoted as a burgeoning artistic hub of the Bay of Kotor through the realization of this project. By showcasing artists from Montenegro and offering a diverse range of content, including programs for the youngest attendees, opera concerts, recitals, jazz performances, concerts by international guests, and premieres of newly formed ensembles, we aim to provide the audience with a wide array of events to attend and enjoy from mid-June to mid-August, as highlighted by the Festival’s PR team.
This platform, among its priority tasks, aims to produce high-quality artistic content throughout the year, develop audiences through creatively designed and carefully selected programs, preserve and enhance local heritage, strengthen the capacities of the local music scene, and promote domestic young talents and female creativity.
The Festival focuses particularly on presenting and supporting young artists originating from Montenegro. Among the special guests of the Festival’s opening are Petra Radulović, soprano, and Sava Vemić, bass, who, despite their youth, are successfully building international careers and already impress with their achievements. As ambassadors of the Festival, they perform and represent the culture of the region on the international stage. Petra Radulović, born in Kotor, discovered her love for music and theater at an early age, leading her to expand and enhance her knowledge gained during her education in Montenegro at one of the world’s most renowned educational institutions in the field of music, the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Currently engaged in the Hanover State Opera, she continues her path and development in the field of opera music.
It is a great honor for me to be part of the gala opening concert of the Tivat Music Festival. Growing up under the influence of the rich culture and beautiful scenery of the Bay of Kotor and Dubrovnik, it has been my dream to collaborate with prestigious ensembles like the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra. This opportunity not only allows me to showcase my knowledge and passion for music but also to pay tribute to the cultural heritage that has shaped me. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this inaugural event of the new Festival, which will create lasting memories and celebrate the fusion of music and tradition, stated Petra Radulović.
Sava Vemić, originally from Belgrade with roots in Durmitor, commands attention with his voice from some of the world’s greatest opera houses and easily captivates audiences with his performances. Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most eminent singers and conductors.
