ABOUT THE PROJECT
Since the release of the album Des de la finestra in 2023, trumpeter Luis González and guitarist Jaume Rico have performed extensively, presenting their collaborative musical project in concerts across various stages. This highly unusual instrumental combination has no established original repertoire. For this reason, the program consists of arrangements and original works written specifically to explore the sound possibilities of the ensemble, as well as the technical and interpretative capacities of the two performers. The concert takes the audience on a journey through diverse musical styles of the 20th and 21st centuries, shaped by a rich palette of timbres created through the use of different instruments (B♭ and C trumpets, cornet, flugelhorn, classical guitar, and electric guitar). On the one hand, the program includes arrangements of works by composers such as Lluís Llach, George Gershwin, Antônio Carlos Jobim, and Ariel Ramírez, as well as adaptations of classical repertoire and arrangements of popular songs from the Valencian folk tradition. On the other hand, it features original works composed specifically for this ensemble
Artists
Luis González is one of the most distinguished trumpeters of his generation. Along with his solo career, he serves as a professor at Musikene – the Higher School of Music of the Basque Country. He regularly gives masterclasses and seminars and serves on the juries of competitions around the world. He performs in a duo with pianist Pepe Gallego, with whom he has revived and recorded some of the most significant works for trumpet and piano by Spanish composers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. These recordings were released on the albums Siglo XX español and Gestas de un Don Nadie. Together with trombonist Carlos Gil, he recorded the album Sinergies, while his collaboration with organist Roberto Fresco resulted in the album Luz Barroca. González has performed with numerous distinguished artists throughout his career. His most recent album, Des de la finestra, was recorded in collaboration with guitarist Jaume Rico. He has been a member of prominent orchestras such as the Balearic Symphony Orchestra, the Madrid Symphony Orchestra, and the Cadaqués Orchestra. As principal trumpet, he has also collaborated with leading ensembles including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and Les Dissonances. Luis González performs exclusively on Stomvi trumpets, manufactured in Valencia.
Jaume Rico, guitar, completed his musical studies at the Óscar Esplà Higher Conservatory of Music in Alicante and at the Hochschule für Musik Köln in Cologne, where he studied with Ignacio Rodes and Roberto Aussel. In 2008, he received an award for outstanding academic achievement. He has won prizes at numerous national and international guitar competitions. Since 2009, he has combined his concert career with teaching. He has taught at conservatories in Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca, Santander, and Málaga. In 2017, he achieved first place in the competitive examination for music and performing arts teaching positions organized by the Government of Andalusia. He currently serves as professor of guitar at the Conservatory of Ontinyent. Rico is also the composer of numerous works for guitar and instrumental ensembles.
